A rich diversity of PR experience

by Grant on September 2, 2009

It’s often time for retrospection when one chapter in a career closes and another opens.

In my case after 30 years in the PR agency business there’s a huge experience bank to draw on. In fact I’ve been surprised – now that I’ve got a few moments to reflect on things – just what a diversity of work I’ve been able to accumulate.

On my About page I’ve picked out some of the highlights in the areas of Corporate, Marketing, Public Education and Information, Industry Associations and Social Media.

I’ve also done an overview piece which asks whether, with the advent of social media, organisations are repeating the same mistakes they made many years ago when they ‘discovered’ the importance of the media. This might evoke a few comments.

But the biggest potential area for retrospection and comment is the contentious area of PR agencies and PR departments. There’s so much in how PR is conducted that is good and praiseworthy; but there’s an awful lot that’s not – on both sides of the fence.

I suspect I’ll have a lot more of my experiences and feelings on this over coming weeks and months. Stay tuned.
